End of year review

I have been doing this every year for the last few years and each time I find myself evolving with the process. I know what you're thinking, DUH dana, as you evolve your process evolves. I want to share with you my newfound perspective as we are entering into the last few days of 2022.

In previous years I used to get frantic around November, omg I have so much to do to achieve my goals in the next two months, I must work my fucking ass off so that I go into the new year with a jump start, I need to go all in right now. These are some of the thoughts I used to have going into November and December. Now, that just seems crazy to me. In this season that I am in, I have chosen to slow down instead. I have chosen to be present and enjoy this season as much as possible. To enjoy the time with family and friends.

In the past it seemed impossible to have fun, go all in with my goals, and try to be fully present with family and take in all the magic the holiday season brings. I am not at all saying that I am not working towards my goals, I am definitely still doing the small things, but in a more lax type of way. I have been journaling every day on what this year has looked like for me and I want that for you too.

Take these next two weeks and just journal a little each day:

What were your favorite moments of 2022? How did those moments make you feel? This gives you an idea of what you want to bring into 2023.

What was hard about this year? Do you still have healing to do from some of those more difficult moments in 2022? If so, what can you do to care for that wound?

What did you hope to accomplish, but weren't able to? Why didn't you get there? What can you do to achieve that thing in 2023?

What habits did you create this year and how are they benefitting your life? It's so important to remind ourself of why you do the things you do.

Do you have any new goals to have or new projects you want to work on?

What hobby can you try this year that isn't related to growth or success? Something that is just fun and interesting.

Once you have answered all those questions in depth and in detail, it's time to set intentions for next year.

What are your 10 goals for 2023? Some of these goals may take more than a year to achieve and that's okay!!

Pick 2 small goals that can be achieved in the first 90 days, then 2 small goals that can be achieved in the first 6 months of the year that will get you closer to your BIG goals. Next think of 6 BIG dreams that may take longer than a year but they are the dreams that light your soul on fire.

NOW, the most important part of this process, set an intention for 2023, this is crucial. I don't believe in resolutions. I prefer intentions. In order to come up with your intention think about how you want to feel at the end of 2023, think of who you want to be, journal on that first and then you create your intention from what you come up with.

January comes fast and the first two weeks the gyms are filled, the fast food lines are shorter, the liquor stores are emptier, the vegetables are being bought at the grocery store... but come February, a lot of people fall out of consistency and aren't keeping up with their resolutions. But when you set an intention, it's all about feelings and who you want to be. Is stopping at Wendy's every day after work in alignment with your intention of wanting to feel physically healthy? If you stay up late and then don't get up in time to do your morning routine, is that in alignment with the person you want to become?

Here's the deal, without doing these check ins with yourself, your chances of changing decrease. Do you want to be in the same place a year from now? Or do you want to evolve and elevate? The choice is always yours and it's as simple as making small CONSISTENT changes in your every day life. Its really fucking simple, we complicate it by not doing the shit we promised ourselves that we would do. Every time I skip my night routine, my morning is off because how you end and start your day is EVERYTHING. It's as simple as not checking your phone or emails or scrolling social media for the first few hours of being awake. As simple as doing a 3 minute gratitude practice every night right before bed or leaving your gym clothes out for the next morning or leaving a bottle of water by your bed and drinking it first thing in the morning. When you create small habits you can habit stack and add more small actions that will get you closer to your goals.
